Big Buddha




Objectives
1. To be a form respect to the Buddha as Bhuddhanu sati, the way of making merit, legeng the land, center of mind, a communicating instrument to spread Buddha's Dharma to our minds and through society.
2. To commemorate the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 80th Birthday Anniversary, December 5, 2007 as the royal charity.
3. To designate the Buddhist park for mental development in daily life. The area around the Buddha statue can be designated as a place for plants relating to the Buddha's life.
4. To be a place for mental development, Samatha and Vipassana for wisdom and peace of people.
5. To be nationally unique as well as a good capital foundation for society who can reflect the pride of participants and worshippers.
6. To establish the PhraphutthaMingmongkol Satha 45 Foundation for the cultivation of the mind, to achieve a peaceful life and family of people as well as to maintain the institutions of the nation, religion and the king concerned.


Background
On April 9, 2002 by the approval of the Department of Forestry, the PhraphutthaMingmongkol Satha 45 Foundation was allowed to develop the area on the top of Mount Nakkerd, the foundation stone-laying ceremony of PhraphutthaMingmongkolEaknakakeeree's base was performed by General Phijit Kulawanich, Privy Councillor and Mr. Phongphayom Wasaphuti, Governor of Phuket. The Supreme Patriarch Phra Yanasngvara granted an audience to the President of Creation.


Mr. Suporn Kulawanich to present the replica of the Buddha atatue to him and he named the Bhuddha statue "PhraphutthaMingmongkolEaknakakeeree" of Muang Phuket. The Lord Buddha's Relics were also granted by him on November 9, 2007 at 4.30 pm.


The Department of Forestry in Collaboration with the Kittisangkharam Temple and the PhraphutthaMingmongkol Satha 45 Foundation designated the area of 42 rai 2 Ngan 18 Square Wa to promote the area as a Buddhist park comprising the two Buddha statues in Subduing Mara. One statue constructed of brass, is 12 meters high. The other is the world's biggest Buddha statue, constructed of reinforced concrete casting, adorned with white jade marble-Suriyakanta. The dimensions are 25.45 meters wide and 45 meters high. Donations from Buddhist followers throughout the world are steadily flowing into the building fund. The objective is to spread the teachings of the Lord Buddha through its presentation to His Majesty the King of the Kingdom of Thailand.


PhraphutthaMingmongkolEaknakakeeree representing Thai wisdom and innovation was created as the world's first Buddha statue constructed of white jade marble. The professional planners specializing in marble who worked for 20 years were in charge of designing and fixing the consolidate and modernized materials.
